Deep in love by Nicole Cubba - Review - A STEM romance where she dislikes him but he is down bad🪸❤️🩹🪼

✨ A Soft Glimpse
A love story built on rivalry, quiet longing, and soft discoveries—where passion meets intellect, and love blooms in the most unexpected places.
🌸 My Heart Says…
A romance book with women in STEM? Yes please and thank you.
This was exactly the kind of read I didn’t know I needed. I picked it up as a little palate cleanser… but oh my—did I devour it? Absolutely yes.
Rivals to lovers with a down bad MMC? I was already sold.
Mateo and Charlie, both PhD students and academic rivals, had me hooked from the very beginning. What started as tension slowly unfolded into something so much deeper, and I couldn’t get enough of it.
💞 What Made Me Swoon
Charlie’s black cat energy paired with Mateo’s golden retriever personality? PERFECTION.
While Charlie was fully convinced they couldn’t stand each other, Mateo… oh, he was gone for her. Completely. Irrevocably.
And the universe clearly agreed—because sending them on a research expedition together (with a little help from their mentors playing cupid)? Best decision ever.
Mateo Alvarez… the man you are.
Brilliant, passionate, and so deeply gone for her in ways that made my heart ache. The way he lingered around her, the way he made himself her rival just to stay in her orbit, the way he yearned—it was everything.
Calling her bruja, being her own personal Willy Wonka, quietly obsessed while she remained completely unaware… I was living for it.
Charlie Bowen, on the other hand, was such a powerhouse. Smart, driven, and unapologetically focused—her world revolved around her work (and maybe a little bit of Charles Darwin… until Mateo).
Her internal monologue felt so real, so raw. The way her past shaped her into someone guarded and reserved made her growth even more meaningful.
And when she finally realized his feelings?
Calling it her “greatest discovery”?
Yeah… I melted.
💔 What Stayed With Me
Beyond the chemistry and banter, it was the vulnerability that truly stood out. The mental health representation felt so honest and grounded—it added depth that made the story feel real, not just romantic.
🌷 Final Page
This book made me swoon, made me emotional, made me feel everything—and then gave me just enough spice to make it even better.
A perfect mix of intellect, emotion, and romance… and easily a five-star read for me.
I’m already waiting for the next one.
